DTF Transfers & Application
What is DTF?
DTF stands for Direct-to-Film. DTF transfers are full-color printed designs applied to fabric using a heat press. They are a great option for custom T-shirts, hoodies, sweatshirts, uniforms, tote bags and many other fabric products.
What fabrics can I use?
DTF transfers can be applied to cotton, polyester, cotton/polyester blends and many performance fabrics. Always test a new garment or fabric before starting a large production run.
Do I need a heat press?
Yes. A heat press provides the consistent heat and pressure needed for proper application. A household iron is not recommended.
How do I apply a DTF transfer?
Your transfer arrives ready to press. Our standard DTF application settings are 320°F for 15 seconds with firm pressure. Follow any transfer-specific instructions supplied with your order if they differ.
- Pre-press the garment for 5 seconds to remove moisture.
- Position the transfer image-side up.
- Press at 320°F for 15 seconds using firm pressure.
- Peel the film warm or cold, according to the instructions supplied with your transfer.
- Cover the design with a parchment sheet and repress for 5 seconds for added durability.
Application instructions may vary depending on the garment and transfer type. Always test a new fabric before a large production run. If you are unsure about your press settings or peel method, call us before applying the transfer.
Can I order just one transfer?
Yes. Eligible products have no minimum quantity, so you can order a single transfer or larger quantities. A $10 minimum purchase applies.
Artwork & Gang Sheets
What is a gang sheet?
A gang sheet combines multiple designs on one sheet of DTF film, helping maximize your print area and reduce the cost per design.
Which gang-sheet ordering option should I use?
Use the gang-sheet builder when you want to arrange separate designs into a sheet. Use the gang-sheet upload option when you already have a finished, print-ready sheet. If you need help choosing a size or uploading your file, contact us before ordering.
What file types do you accept?
Recommended formats include PNG, PDF, SVG, EPS, AI, JPG and TIFF. For raster artwork, use 300 DPI at the intended print size. Transparent backgrounds are strongly recommended for DTF artwork.
How should I prepare my artwork?
- Create your artwork at or close to the final print size.
- For raster files, aim for 300 DPI at that size.
- Use a transparent background for DTF artwork whenever possible.
- Convert text to outlines when submitting vector files.
- Check the design, spelling, dimensions and image quality before uploading.
Enlarging a low-resolution image does not restore missing detail. The website's background-removal tool may not produce results as clean as your design software or a dedicated tool. If you are unsure about sizing or image quality, contact us before ordering.
Do you remove backgrounds or fix artwork?
Artwork preparation depends on the service selected. Contact us before placing your order if you need cleanup, background removal, resizing or other design work. Artwork fees may apply based on the time required or as a flat rate.
What size should my artwork be?
Create your artwork at or close to the size you want printed. Do not rely on enlarging a low-resolution image after uploading it.
We are not responsible if the resolution was not up to printing standards. We print what is sent.
What if I have trouble uploading?
Call 313-474-1941 for file-upload support. Have your product choice, intended dimensions and file format ready so we can help you find the right next step.
UV DTF & Application
What is UV DTF?
UV DTF is a specialty transfer for smooth, hard surfaces. Common applications include tumblers, cups, bottles, glass, acrylic, plastic, metal, promotional products and packaging. It does not require a heat press.
Is UV DTF the same as regular DTF?
No. Regular DTF is for fabric and apparel and requires heat and pressure. UV DTF is a peel-and-stick transfer for smooth, hard surfaces.
Do I need a heat press for UV DTF?
No. Apply UV DTF by hand to a clean, smooth surface.
How do I apply UV DTF?
- Clean and dry the surface.
- Position the transfer.
- Burnish or rub the transfer firmly.
- Slowly remove the application film.
- Check the design and press down any edges if necessary.
For best results, follow the application instructions supplied with your order.
What surfaces can I use?
UV DTF works best on clean, smooth, hard surfaces such as glass, acrylic, metal and many plastics. It is not designed for fabric or rough, porous surfaces.
Is UV DTF waterproof?
UV DTF transfers are designed for durable applications and are commonly used on drinkware and other hard goods. Durability depends on the surface, application, cleaning method and amount of use.
Can I put UV DTF on a shirt?
No. For clothing and fabric, order a traditional DTF transfer instead.
